Media Services and Video * Media Services Home

Overview

CIS Media Services provides A-V and instructional technology support for all on-campus TC classrooms. For Gottesman Libraries’ A-V or classrooms support, please call x4104 or email them at librmres@tc.columbia.edu.

CIS Media Services is responsible for the maintenance, operation and set-up of the Audio-Visual equipment installed in 32 classrooms and 3 major lecture halls. We provide classroom instructional support for all academic departments’ regularly scheduled classes. The preferred method to request classroom instructional support is the Media Manager Request Form available online for TC users.

In order to best support the college, 21 classrooms have permanently installed multi-media equipment racks (i.e. a ceiling/wall mounted LCD projector, 60w sound system, PC, DVD and VCR players with additional VGA/Mini connections for laptop use). In addition we have 11 fixed mobile carts stationed in classrooms which have an LCD projector, a PC, DVD/VCR combo, and 30w Sound System. Classrooms without any fixed mobile carts or built-in media consoles have a TV/DVD/VCR unit permanently stationed in them. For classrooms without fixed equipment we can provide mobile carts equipped with an LCD projector, a PC, and 30w Sound System for use. All classrooms have a standard overhead transparency projector and screen in them (tripod or wall).

CIS Media Services also provides technical support for special events, conferences, and workshops held at the college’s major lecture halls (Cowin Center, Milbank Chapel, and Grace Dodge Room). Users should be aware that these major spaces involve additional special tech fees and set up charges that will be invoiced to all users (even TC groups). The audio-visual systems installed in the lecture halls need experienced technical support and they will not be available or operational to the users unless arrangements have been made in advance with Media Services.

All special A-V equipment requests (i.e. multiple microphones for panel discussions, additional projection systems set-ups in classrooms or other spaces, video conferencing or web-casting, video/audio recording, etc.) will involve additional technical set-up fees plus the standard hourly cost of hiring our technical staff for support (there’s a minimum hire requirement of 4 hours for all technical staffing needs). TC organizations arranging for technical support will need the approval of either a department program coordinator or a budget director so Media can charge the department’s budget (only those authorized to sign off on budget lines can sign a Media Assistants time sheet for hours worked and approve a budget transfer for the special equipment set up fees.) For non TC groups all fees and tech charges will be invoiced.

Media Services offers instruction on the use of presentation technology i.e., primarily the set-up of the classroom audio visual projection systems. If you would like some instruction, please call us or email us for an appointment.
